Nineteenth- and twentieth-century fiction in English, Charles Dickens, Edward Said and Orientalism, postcolonial literature, travel writing.
CURRENT PROJECT
I am currently one of a group of scholars from Bilkent University and the national Library of Scotland working on a documentary edition of the early-nineteenth-century travel journals and the letters of Henrietta Liston (1752-1828) on Constantinople and Turkey/the Ottoman Empire. This material has never been published and it deserves to be, as a fascinating example of women’s life writing and travel literature.
